Australian department store David Jones opened its doors in Wellington this week and will inject a new level of retail luxury into the city.

Taking over the old Kirkcaldies & Stains site the $20 million refurbishment has created a luxury look, synonymous with David Jones stores, and brings an element of fashion theatre to the city. Its the first time that David Jones has branched out overseas and they are excited to be opening in New Zealand.

The department store gives Wellingtonians the chance to shop International Brands like, Jimmy Choo, Valentino, Balenciaga, and Saint Lauren, as well as Kiwi brands, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester and Saben. They will also house 'high street' brands Country Road, Nine West, Rodd & Gunn to name a few. The design of the store allows for them to swap out brands and try different labels to see what works this side of the Tasman.

David Jones joins arrival here signals the change in the retail market in New Zealand, as we begin to receive big name brands like David jones, TopShop and later this year Zara and H&M in Sylvia Park, Auckland.

I look forward to checking out the store on my next trip to Wellington, although not sure what I will be able to afford? But, the David Jones sales can be a great way to pick up designer bargains.

Italian Fashion label Fendi launched its new haute couture collection at the historic Trevi Fountain in Rome to mark its 90th anniversary, and in doing so have set the bar pretty high for future fashion houses.

Karl Lagerfeld, the head designer, and Fendi spared no expense as they flew out top models, including muse Kendall Jenner, and the elite fashion press to attend the event. The famous fountain was covered with a glass platform for the models to walk on.

The new collection was themed - Legends and Fairy-tales, and you can watch the full show below.

All photos and video from Fendi.

Over the last few years more and more Sports / Active-wear brands have teamed up with celebrities and produced exciting, stylish clothing and/or footwear collections. Here are some collaborations that have caught my eye.

As I mentioned in my Hot in the Shops Active-wear post, Adidas are producing some great ranges in their collections with Stella McCartney - Stella Sport, Pharrell Williams- Originals by Pharrell, and Rita Ora - Originals by Rita Ora.

Rihanna has designed a shoe collection with Puma- FENTY by Rihanna, and Kylie Jenner recently launched her clothing line collaboration with Puma-Forever Fierce. Both available through the PUMA.co.au website with AU$10.00 shipping fee.

Kate Hudson, (the actress), is the co-founder behind Fabletics. A womens active-wear club, where you become a VIP member and pay a monthly fee to receive great discounts on items. (There has been a bit of bad press about Fabletics and the way they operate, but you make your mind up; (read article). Unfortunately they only ship as far as Australia! However there are various websites that you can sign up to that then allow you to receive shipping from overseas countries, try NZ Post.
