H&M and KENZO Collaboration to hit Sylvia Park

19/10/2016

If you're after a piece of designer clothing at high street prices, then you might want to get in line for the launch of the H&M and Kenzo collaboration, which hits our shores on November 3rd at H&M Sylvia Park Auckland!

But who, or what is Kenzo, some of you may ask? Kenzo Takada was the founder of the Parisian brand, but retired in 1999 to pursue his interest in art. His collections were known throughout the fashion world for colour, fantasy and fun, designs that were often inspired by native dress from around the world.

The present day design duo, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim were appointed in 2011, and have been at the helm ever since. They continued Takada's legacy and today the brand is known for its vibrant print, Tiger logo motif sweatshirts and street influences.

The H&M collaboration is not for everyone, but if you want a piece of fashion history then get in line. That's not to say the collections are too over the top, I could imagine buying a Kenzo Tiger sweatshirt or silk top and pairing it with jeans to play down the brightness of the print.

For more information on the collection, the pieces and prices,  stories from the models used in the campaign, (including Chloe Sevigny, Iman and US Rappers), head to the H&M website.

Boho collections - Arielle Mermin

I stumbled across an article about this designer, Arielle Mermin, last week. Originating from California, but now residing in New Zealand, she has a very boho, free spirited style to her collections. She is stocked in more than 30 boutiques in New Zealand and Australia and her collections are available online.

I have chosen some of the pieces from her current collection Golden Years, that I loved, in particular the Green Instanbul dress and the Jumpsuit.

Arielle Mermin
Green Istanbul Dress $289.00, Malibu Top $229.00, Mexico Dress $269.00.

St Lucia Dress $398.00, Ibiza Blouse in Gold $269.00, Senegal Jumpsuit $279.00.

I couldn't resist showing you these adorable Little Girl Mexican dresses. They range in size by age range and there is limited stock but there are sizes from 2-6. I would even use them just as hanging decorations in a little girls room!
Little Girl Mexican dresses $48.00.

I am in retail heaven!

Over the school holidays two giant European retail brands opened their doors at Sylvia Park, Auckland. H&M opened first with queues of over 1,000 people, crazy! While Zara was a little more low key with around 300 shoppers waiting for the doors to open.

I waited for the crowds to die down, and on Tuesday drove to Sylvia Park to finally check out Zara and H&M. I was in retail heaven, and I was not disappointed. I could have spent a fortune but I am on a budget right now so was very restrained, but I did snap up a black top from Zara, which I will show you in one of my Looks of the Week.

What I was most curious to see was how the prices stacked up. In the UK H&M is generally cheaper than Zara, and this was the case here too. I would align H&M with Glassons pricing and Zara with Country Road pricing, if not a little cheaper on basics.

In particular what Zara is so well known for is its ability to turn around catwalk looks to the high street and with high street prices. Both stores have a definite bohemian feel to their collections, although they both do great basics, tops, jeans, and jackets.

For those of you outside of the Auckland region, once both these big names start to expand within New Zealand, then online shopping will follow. Watch this space.

I photographed some of my favourite pieces in each store, check out below.

ZARA
Velvet Embroidered Jacket $199.00, Stripe Maxi Dress $89.90, Black Pleated Frill Top $54.99, Black Lace Top $65.90.

H&M
Faux Suede Jacket $79.99, Orange Top $24.99, Maxi Dress $29.99, Short Dress $29.99.
