Australian department store David Jones opened its doors in Wellington this week and will inject a new level of retail luxury into the city.
Taking over the old Kirkcaldies & Stains site the $20 million refurbishment has created a luxury look, synonymous with David Jones stores, and brings an element of fashion theatre to the city. Its the first time that David Jones has branched out overseas and they are excited to be opening in New Zealand.
The department store gives Wellingtonians the chance to shop International Brands like, Jimmy Choo, Valentino, Balenciaga, and Saint Lauren, as well as Kiwi brands, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester and Saben. They will also house 'high street' brands Country Road, Nine West, Rodd & Gunn to name a few. The design of the store allows for them to swap out brands and try different labels to see what works this side of the Tasman.
David Jones joins arrival here signals the change in the retail market in New Zealand, as we begin to receive big name brands like David jones, TopShop and later this year Zara and H&M in Sylvia Park, Auckland.
I look forward to checking out the store on my next trip to Wellington, although not sure what I will be able to afford? But, the David Jones sales can be a great way to pick up designer bargains.
