Every year the collection focuses on high fashion items crafted from sustainable materials. While the brand is always trying to incorporate organic and recycled fabrics into its entire assortment, it has been developing new materials for Conscious Exclusive every year, and this is the first time the brand is releasing a Conscious line for kids, and the first time in several years that men will get a sustainable capsule wardrobe.
The first details to be revealed on the women’s side include a perfume made of organic oils and a powder pink plissé dress made of BIONIC®, which is recycled polyester made from recovered plastic from shorelines, waterways and coastal communities. (Featured below).
The collection will be available online and in selected stores from 20 April. (I am waiting to hear if that includes New Zealand.)
I think it is great to see one of the high street retail giants focusing on sustainable fashion as the clothing industry is the second largest polluter in the world! Fashion is a complicated business involving long and varied supply chains of production, raw material, textile manufacture, clothing construction, shipping, retail, wear and ultimately disposal of the garment, the fashion carbon footprint is tremendous.
As consumers we are all guilty of contributing to this, but it is hard not to enjoy the 'fast fashion'. Maybe we can all try to choose wisely when we buy, pick items that we love and not buy on impulse, save for items that might last us longer. Hundreds of small steps can make a big difference.
