Chambray for everyone.

Chambray or denim, is not just reserved for jeans. There is an assortment of shirts, skirts, shorts, dresses and trousers that we can all choose from. The great thing about chambray is that it comes in varying blue hues which means that there is a colour for everybody!

I have a denim shirt dress that I style with a belt and sometimes double denim with jeans underneath. But a chambray shirt can also be a valuable item to have in your cupboard as it can look smart with a pair of PU Trousers or casual with jeans. Denim skirts are everywhere and you can choose from long, short,
A-line or pencil, button through or splits, there's a style for everyone.

Maxi Styling

Do you have summer maxi dresses or skirts hanging in the depths of your wardrobe? Are they stuck at the back because you think they are summer items, and you don't know how to style them for winter? Or are you a bit over wearing jeans all the time? These don't have to be just summer items, with a bit of imagination you can layer up your maxis for cute winter styles.

  • Layering - if you want to throw on your Summer maxi dress why not try a thermal or merino layer underneath. Look for v-necks or singlets with wrap or v-neck dresses, and crew-neck for other styles.
  • Tights/Leggings - if you are opting for a maxi dress with no side splits then leggings are a great option, otherwise I think tights look better when you can see your legs through a long dress/skirt.
  • A contrasting scarf can really dress up your look as well as add warmth.
  • Ankle boots, sneakers or heels for evening work best with this look.
  • Why not try a winter jumper over the top of your dress or skirt, with a belt over the top of the jumper, to give definition around the waist.
  • A Leather Jacket or Denim Jacket look great with the longer length on the bottom as it evens out your proportions.

Cape, Poncho or Wrap?

The Cape, Wrap or Poncho, is again featuring in all the shops this Winter. You can choose from a more structured Cape - an oversized jacket style, a Wrap - basically a big scarf, or a Poncho - a circular piece of fabric with a hole for your head.

My preference is a Wrap, because you can styled them in many different ways;
add them over a leather or denim Jacket for a stylish edge, wear them over a jumper for an extra layer, and play around with how you wrap/fold them on your body to give different looks.

The Wrap I am wearing here is from Country Road and is $229.00. (Country Road currently have 25% off everything!) I have styled my wrap open like a cardigan, and thrown over the shoulder on one side. You could also attach a broach to fasten it a particular way.

For my pick from the shops check out the choices below.

Wraps/Blanket Scarves
Country Road Striped Fringed Poncho $229.00, Forever New Maci Block Check Cape AU$59.99, Witchery Tassel Stripe Wrap $64.90.

Portmans Cape Jacket AU$99.95 (further 25% off), Decjuba Donna Cape AU$199.95, Glassons Wool Blend Cape Coat $119.99.

Winter Coats

If you want to update your Winter Coat this season then check out my choices below. Whether its warm and snugly, chic and classy, or a statement print, I have got some great coats to choose from.

The Puffer is a great Winter Coat. I love them because I need the extra warmth, especially when standing on the side-lines of my kids soccer games all winter! You don't have to look as though you have thrown on a duvet, you can look stylish. The best way to achieve this is go for a belted Puffer to give you some shape, and a puffer with fur trim!

Printed Coats are big news and checks especially seem to be all the rage. I love all these these prints below,  especially the Esprit multi-printed coat, and these can be a fun way to update your look.

If you are after something effortlessly chic then a shawl/Wrap/Waterfall Coat is the one to opt for. They just look so elegant and again the belted waist helps to give you definition around the waist.
